Alan and I were fortunate to attend the Dalai Lama's talk "A human approach to world peace" at Cornell on October 9. He was charming and open and captivated a large audience in a very hot and humid basketball arena on the Cornell campus. You can see a video of his talk live at http://www.cornell.edu/video/!
There was one thing that he said that I am still thinking about. He indicated that if a country lives in fear of another, even though they may not be actively at war, they are still not at peace. This means that the US has never been at peace in my lifetime. I wonder what the US would have to be like to not be in fear of another country?
The Dalai Lama was in Ithaca to dedicate the new Namgyal monastery, which will be his North American Headquarters. The new monastery is called Dü Khor Choe Ling, or The Land of Kalachakra Study and Practice. You can find out more about it at www.namgyal.org
